Qualifications

 

  • An earned doctorate degree (Ph.D., Pharm.D., M.D. or equivalent);
  • Evidence of or the potential for excellence in teaching, service, research and scholarly activity;
  • Post-doctoral experience or a background in pharmacy or pharmacy education preferred.

 

Academic Rank and Salary

 

Experience and qualifications will determine academic rank and salaries are nationally competitive by AACP standards for 12 month appointments at private institutions.

 

Positions Available: Beginning June 1, 2008 and June 1 2009

 

Seven faculty positions in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences are available over the next two years to meet the educational responsibilities of the professional program and to create innovative teaching or research opportunities among existing academic health centers, research institutions and emerging biotech companies.  Successful candidates will be responsible for the development and delivery of courses in the biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences.  Tenure and Non-Tenure Track faculty positions are presently open at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor in the following areas:

Research Start-up Funds and External Affiliations

 

Start-up funds are available to qualified candidates for establishing an independent research program.  Collaborative agreements and potential faculty appointments have been established with Vanderbilt University and Meharry Medical College to facilitate innovative educational and research opportunities for faculty and students.

Pharmaceutics/Biopharmaceutics Faculty Position.  The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences invites applications for a tenure or non-tenure track faculty appointment in pharmaceutics/biopharmaceutics at the assistant, associate, or full professor level.  Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree in pharmaceutics and postdoctoral training or relevant job experience is preferred.  Candidates with experience in pharmaceutical techniques, modeling, or simulation that may relate to development of drug therapies, drug targets, or drug delivery systems are especially encouraged to apply.  The successful candidate will be expected to develop and deliver coursework in pharmaceutics, biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics as well as assist or interface with faculty providing didactic content or laboratory experiments in the pharmaceutics compounding/dispensing laboratory and the integrated biomedical sciences laboratory.  The candidate is encouraged to pursue and establish appropriate research collaborations among existing academic health centers or biotech companies and engage in scholarly activity.

Pharmacokinetics/Drug Metabolism Faculty Position.  The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences invites applications for a tenure or non-tenure track faculty appointment in pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism at the assistant, associate, or full professor level.  Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree in pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical sciences, or related discipline and postdoctoral training or relevant job experience is preferred.  Candidates with experience in drug metabolism and pharmacokinetic modeling or simulation are especially encouraged to apply.  The successful candidate will be expected to develop and deliver lecture content in advanced biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics as well as assist or interface with faculty providing didactic content in pharmacology, pharmacogenomics, or associated laboratory experiments in the integrated biomedical sciences laboratory.  The candidate is encouraged to pursue and establish appropriate research collaborations among existing academic health centers or biotech companies and engage in scholarly activity.

Pharmacology/Pharmacodynamics Faculty Position.  The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences invites applications for a tenure or non-tenure track faculty appointment in pharmacology and pharmacodynamics at the assistant, associate, or full professor level.  Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree in the associated scientific discipline and postdoctoral training or relevant job experience is preferred.  Candidates with research or teaching experience in pharmacology and/or pharmacodynamics simulation are especially encouraged to apply.  The successful candidate will be expected to develop and deliver lecture content in pharmacology as well as assist or interface with faculty providing didactic content in physiology, medicinal chemistry, toxicology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenomics, or associated laboratory experiments in the integrated biomedical sciences laboratory.  The candidate is encouraged to pursue and establish appropriate research collaborations among existing academic health centers or biotech companies and engage in scholarly activity.
